Saturday Sun

13 Jul

Crowded House‘s new album, Intriguer was released today in North America.  While most of my friends were loving NKOTB during our younger years, I was loving Crowded House.  I haven’t had a chance to go out to buy it, but I will at some point.  Here’s the first single.  Loving the vibe.  Hating Mr. Finn’s stache.  It’s really unnerving me.

Also, I’m sad that they’re not coming to Winnipeg on their tour this year.  *heart broken.*

I Heart The Killers

19 May

Before I disappear for a while ~ sharing great music on a sunny day.

Love The Killers.  Love Brandon Flowers.  How can you not: “I’m from Las Vegas! I can’t understand why more people don’t wear sequins…” – Brandon Flowers, Glastonbury 2007.

Then This…

28 Mar

*sigh*.  Macaron gods were not so kind to me yesterday.  Maybe I lost my macaron mojo.  Maybe I got macaron cocky.  Either or, the second thing to come out of my kitchen this past weekend was an utter failure (to me at least).

Saturday's Ugliest Macarons. I'm not sure why this picture isn't showing up. And these are the point of the post. *sigh*. I can't even post properly? WORST!

I attempted to make some mango macarons feeling very inspired by the freeze-dried fruit that Bob had bestowed me earlier this month.

I had been reading other recipes where they had put about 25g of fruit powder in their macaron shells.  I looked at the package and it yields 28g.  I tried some, and it was actually quite good.  Had to seriously stop myself from eating the whole package.  In it went, the rest of the contents, into the food processor with its almond meal and powdered sugar brethren.

Freeze dried mango looks like very tiny marshmallow cubes.

I used my usual recipe and that may have been part of the problem (I think, at least).  Maybe there was too little egg whites to make up for almost 26g maybe even 27 g of freeze dried fruit.  I’ve also realized that no matter how much or how little of freeze dried fruit you use, your macarons will not taste like, in this case, mango.  There was a hint of it, but the powdered sugar really takes over.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any mango extract to give it a bit of oomph.  Maybe I used too much food colouring.  To get this lovely, light, orange colour it took 4 drops of red and 36 drops of yellow food colouring.

Breakfast.

Mango macarons with Blackberry Jam.

I can only hope next time will be better.   Besides cracked shells, the texture is perfect: a soft, chewy persuasion.  Because of my mild macaron depression, I wasn’t in the mood to even attempt a mango mousse.  Instead, I’ve filled them with a blackberry jam.  Oh everyone, if you guys lived in the city, I would have called you over to take them away, out of my sight as fast as you could.

To feel a bit better, I bought Neil Finn’s One All (FINALLY!)

Neil Finn's One All. Which I bought mainly for "Anytime". Check it out, this man is amazing.

Watched Vampire Diaries

and had kick ass, rockin’ sockin’, wings from 7 Eleven.  For serious, these are the best wings in the city.  Someone’s gonna have a ring of fire today!!! (not me).

Coconut Records – “Back to You”

Dedicated to Pierre @ Little Hungry Heart.

A cute little ditty about love (?) in reference to his Notes on Falling in Love (Breakfast at Pierre’s).  Because talking about Love and Brunch in one post is just too good to pass up.

Radiohead “Jigsaw Falling Into Place”

23 Feb

I don’t remember the last time I actually sat down and watched a music video.  I just discovered that my fave song on In Rainbows has a video.  Back in the day I had the hugest infatuation with Thom York.  Love him.  Love his voice.

I will admit though, I’m not entirely understanding the bicycle helmets.

Now I’m gonna rock out to this song whilst cooking.
