Soup S.O.S.

27 Apr

I have been feeling under the weather for the past five days.  Everything came to a head yesterday morning.  After the alarm went off I wasn’t feeling so hot.  Today was slightly better and spent most of it sleeping.  My appetite has come back but my tastebuds are not quite to par.  I needed soup but I didn’t have any meats thawed about.  What to do…?  What to do?  I pondered.

I remember before feeling sick that Denise from Quickies on the Dinner Table had conjured up a wonderful chilled minted cucumber yoghurt soup.  YES!!!  This should be the remedy.  I actually had everything except for the mint, much to my chagrin.  Instead, I substituted for the ubiquitous dill.  Now I love dill as much as the next gal, but I also didn’t want a-typical flavours.  I wanted that mint with its refreshingness.  What’s a girl to do?

Cucumber and Dill and Lemon.

Into the food processor my pretties. Buwahahahahahahah!

Lovely chilled soup with extra dollop of yoghurt.

Ok Mr. Dill, you win this time.  You were a lovely, spot-on substitute.  But next time, next time I call on Ms. Mint because she’s so saucy.  Wonderful, wonderful soup.  No word of a lie, I could barely taste before but now I can taste the garlic, the dill, the cucumber… *sigh*.  Thanks for your help on this Denise, not only am I feeling better but I can taste again!!! *mua*

P.S.: Reading/replying/commenting will resume later this week, possibly on the weekend.  Going back to bed now.  Night night.

Aww….poor Jenn! Glad you’re feeling and tasting *hee* better now, and all snug in bed :)

Dill is right, trad and proper me dear – I’m the one who can never follow a recipe like I’m supposed to ;)

Anyway your picture suggests you more than did justice to my recipe – it looks WONDERFUL and you’re making me crave it again. The weather has been a real b**ch and it’s still scorching :P Sadly, no more yoghurt in the fridge so, off with me to the shops…..

      Hi Denise,
Feeling loads better. I haven’t not been to work because of illness for over a year and a half. And then I didn’t go to work for two days. Basically just a cold and my body telling me that I need to slow down and sleep.

I really need to try this with the mint though. Loved it with dill, but yes, Dill is a tad traditional and I know how much we both love doing different ;)

Your weather has been hot hot Hot? I wish. The past four days has been cloudy with rain for the past two. Bloody depressing :(

Dear Sweet Jenn – Hope you are feeling better. I am sure Denise’s soup did wonders….just those flavors would fire up the system!

BTW, the award torch is passed…please check it out. No – not now – when you’re up and about! :)

    Ciao, Devaki @ weavethousandflavors

      Hi Devaki,
thank you! Feeling much better yes. I hate being sick. Do you remember being sick as a child? It’s different when you’re an adult. I remember being sick when I was younger with fever but still playing a bit and watching teevee. Now, as an adult, I need the blinds shut, blackness, and tons of sleep. I wish I had what I had as a child now so I wouldn’t miss work. Gah! As much as I hate my office job I still feel bad for missing work. What kind of work ethic is that?!?!?

Ugh… the inability to taste sucks. And then in order to “taste” I eat either excessively sweet or excessively salty. Neither really works, but I always hope if I can taste it, it’s a sign of betterment.

Yes! Try this soup. The dill is lovely, but I’m really wanting the mint! My parents’s will be growing like wild flowers soon so I guess I can wait a little longer… lol… Ooooooooh, it’s getting warmer in Texas too??? I wish I was somewhere warm :(

Hey Jenn, you sleep! Hope you feel better soon…
Soup sounds perfectly traditional and delicious too by the way.

    • defunktgourmet May 2, 2010 at 9:53 am #

      Hi Stella,
      feeling better, thanks!!!
I love yoghurt but having it in a soup is awesome. yoghurt to me is always sweet, so when the opportunity for a salty yoghurt dish came up I had to try it. That and, well, I wanted soup to make me feel better and I didn’t have the energy to muster something more traditional.

Wonderful soup. Hope you are feeling better now. Deinse is great isn’t she? So are you by the way. Cheers!

    • defunktgourmet May 2, 2010 at 9:56 am #

      Hi Lazaro,
most definitely. An awesome soup, it’s the first thing that I could actually taste! But I didn’t go crazy on the salt because then no one else would be able to eat it :p
Denise is vunderbar, where would we be without her? Awww… thanks!

  8. Anna May 1, 2010 at 8:58 pm #

Oh Dear! Hope you are feeling okay now. A nice soup is always the answer to all sort of maladies. ;-)

    • defunktgourmet May 2, 2010 at 10:00 am #

      Hi Anna,
feeling loads better. And yes, soup is a nice cure-all when you’re feeling sick, down in the dumps… lol…. I rarely eat or even make cold soups so this was nice. still need to try your gazpacho. From my monitor, it is the beez kneez.

Jenn, I HOPE that you’re feeling better by now!!! I thought I had already commented on this post, but I guess not! Ack – must’ve gotten distracted by the little critters, I mean kids. LOL. The soup looks SO good and just what the doctor ordered. Hugs, hope you feel better soon!

    • defunktgourmet May 2, 2010 at 10:02 am #

      Hi Liren,
oh silly, no need to comment on every post. If you’ve read it, I’m happy :)
Did you just call your critters, kids? Wait your kids, critters?? lol… just jokes. I understand being a mum is busy. I don’t know how you do it: mum, wife, blogger? I’m just a wife and blogger to a mum of a fat cat… tee he…
Feeing loads better, thank you!! Ugh, I very very very rarely get sick and miss work. It totally sucked :( But now I’m my usual, perky self so everything is all good ;)
